New Member Benefit Announced

Travel Portland is pleased to announce a new opportunity it is offering to its members -- identification as a green-certified business in our online member listings on www.travelportland.com. Meeting planners and leisure travelers are increasingly concerned with the impact of travel on the environment, and they want to work with companies that can help them minimize those impacts.

Travel Portland hosted an "It Pays to Be Green" seminar last March, during which we introduced several sustainable certification programs available to local businesses. We are now moving forward with the next step and, beginning in January 2008, Travel Portland will identify member businesses that have achieved certification from one of the programs on our list of recognized certifications. Travel Portland will also offer a database search capability that will list green businesses on request.

This program will complement Travel Portland's new marketing campaign targeting conventions specifically interested in green destinations. The program will also support Travel Portland's goal of providing increased offerings of green travel options to leisure visitors. Portland has a worldwide reputation as one of the top cities for sustainability — we are happy to provide a link between potential visitors and the many businesses that are contributing to these efforts.

If you are interested in having your business identified as a green member, please send a copy of proof of certification to:

1000 S.W. Broadway, Suite 2300
Portland, OR 97205

If you are not yet certified and would like more information on becoming certified, please contact Veronica Rinard or Tamara Kennedy-Hill at Travel Portland. They can help connect you to the proper certification companies. In addition, Travel Portland plans to hold another certification seminar in 2008.
